This FAQ answers the questions new StretchWire users ask most. For symptom-by-symptom fixes, see Troubleshooting access, saving, and imports.
General
What is StretchWire? The StretchSuite tool for wireframing and layout planning — mapping screens, page structure, and responsive frames before visual design or development begins. It covers the low-fidelity structural stage of a web or app project.
How is it different from a design tool? Wireframing is intentionally low-fidelity: you arrange structure and hierarchy, not visuals. StretchWire is where you decide what goes where; the design stage decides what it looks like.
What can I plan with it? Websites, landing pages, portfolios, blogs, mobile and tablet apps, dashboards, admin panels, emails, newsletters, marketing and pricing pages, user flows, sitemaps, component boards, and overlays like popups and modals.
What's the difference between a project, a board, a frame, and a block? A project is the container for a body of work; a board is one screen inside it; a frame is a responsive artboard (Desktop 1440, Tablet 834, Mobile 390) inside a board; a block is a structural piece placed on a frame.
Access and entitlements
Why can I view but not create? On the workspace (Pro) surface, reading is always available but creating and versioning require an active Pro entitlement. A Pro access notice means writes are locked pending that entitlement.
What does the "Read-only — pending step-up authorization" banner mean? That's the access gate on the admin surface, where write actions require a step-up confirmation before saving. It's expected behavior, not an error — lists still load.
Do my teammates see the same wireframes? Yes, if they're in the same organization. StretchWire is organization-scoped: everyone in your org shares the same projects and boards; other organizations are isolated.
Projects and boards
Is there a limit on projects or boards? Create as many projects and boards as your work needs — one project per site/app, one board per screen is the intended pattern.
Can I change a project's type or a board's viewport mode later? Yes. Reopen the project or board and update it; the change saves immediately.
What does "Internal" mean in the client column? The project has no client name set. Add one to group work by client.
Does archiving delete anything? No. Archived projects are just excluded from your active counts; their boards and history remain.
Canvas, frames, and collaboration
Why does my new board already have a hero block? New boards are seeded with a starter hero on the Desktop frame so you can begin structuring immediately — replace its placeholder eyebrow, headline, body, and CTA.
Do edits on one frame copy to the others? No. Frames are independent so you control how a layout reflows across Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile.
Can multiple people edit the same board at once? Yes. Opening a board joins a secure, board-scoped live room; teammates who open the same board edit together, and autosaves are captured as versions. See Real-time collaboration on boards.
Versions and import
How do versions get created? Automatically when you save and via autosaves during collaboration, plus deliberate named snapshots you capture at milestones.
Can I undo a big change? Yes. Every save is preserved. Open an earlier version and re-save its document as current to roll back; nothing in between is lost.
How do I bring in an existing wireframe? Use Import — upload a .json file or paste the document JSON. It must be a JSON object with wireframe fields and under 2 MB. See Importing and version snapshots.
Data and sharing
Where is my work stored? Through the StretchWire service, scoped to your organization. Nothing lives only in your browser.
How is collaboration kept secure? Live rooms are scoped to your organization and to the exact board you opened, using short-lived tokens that refresh during a session and never authorize other boards.
Can I share a wireframe with someone in another organization? StretchWire access is org-scoped. To collaborate live, participants need access within the same organization.
