Working with the Task Board

Scan and manage tasks Kanban-style across status columns on the Board, and drag cards to change status.

Overview

The Board lays your active tasks out Kanban-style, one column per status, so you can see the whole flow of work at a glance and act on any card without leaving the view.

The columns

The Board has a fixed set of status lanes, in order:

  • Inbox — captured but not yet triaged
  • Planned — scheduled but not yet in focus
  • Today — what you're working on now
  • Upcoming — coming soon
  • Waiting — parked on someone or something else
  • Blocked — stuck behind a dependency

Each column header shows a live count. Cards inside a column are automatically sorted by priority (Urgent first), then by due date, so the most pressing work floats to the top.

A task's completion is separate from its status, so there is no "Done" column — completed tasks leave the Board and appear in Reporting.

Reading a card

Every card shows the task title, its priority chip, the due date (highlighted red if overdue), the project it belongs to, and the assignee if one is set.

Steps: work the Board

  1. Open Board from the left rail.
  2. Scan the stat row at the top for open, overdue, due-today, and per-priority counts.
  3. Drag a card from one column to another to change its status — for example, drag a card from Waiting to Today when it becomes unblocked. The move saves instantly.
  4. Click any card to open the task detail panel, where you can edit fields, change status, reassign, add checklist items, or delete.
  5. To finish a task, click the check icon in the card's top-right corner and confirm in the completion dialog.

Concrete example

You open the Board and see 4 cards stacked in Waiting. One, "Client sign-off on Q3 brief," is now unblocked. You drag it from Waiting to Today; the move saves immediately, and because it's marked High priority it lands near the top of the Today column. Later you finish it and click the check — it leaves the Board and shows up in Reporting.

Tips

  • Dragging a card is the fastest way to re-status work — you don't have to open the detail panel just to move something along.
  • Use the stat row to spot trouble early: a rising overdue count is your cue to open Planner and reschedule.
  • If a task has a status the Board doesn't recognize (for example, an imported value), it won't be dropped — StretchTasks keeps every active task visible.

Troubleshooting

  • A completed task vanished from the Board. That's expected — completion is separate from status, and completed tasks move to Reporting.
  • My card won't drag. Make sure you're dragging the card body, not a chip or link on it. If a move doesn't stick, reopen the card and change Status from the detail panel instead.
  • A column looks empty but the count is non-zero. Refresh the view; counts and cards are read from the same live data and will reconcile on reload.
