Planning Your Day with the Planner

Use the Planner's day lanes to see what's overdue, due today, and coming up — and drag tasks to reschedule instantly.

Overview

The Planner organizes your work by when it's due rather than by status. It lays tasks out in day lanes so you can see what's slipping, what's due now, and what's ahead — then drag a card to a different lane to reschedule it on the spot.

The lanes

The Planner groups active tasks into time-based lanes:

  • Overdue — past their due date and not yet done. Clear these first.
  • Today — due today (or explicitly set to the Today status).
  • Tomorrow — due tomorrow.
  • Upcoming — due later this week and beyond.
  • No due date — captured but unscheduled.

Within each lane, tasks are ordered by priority and due time, so the most urgent work sits at the top.

Steps: plan your day

  1. Open Planner from the left rail.
  2. Start with the Overdue lane — decide for each task whether to do it now or reschedule it.
  3. Drag a card to another lane to reschedule it. Dragging from Today to Tomorrow pushes its due date to tomorrow; dragging into No due date clears the date.
  4. Review the Today lane top-to-bottom and work it in priority order.
  5. Glance at Tomorrow and Upcoming to spot anything you should pull forward.
  6. Finish tasks with the check icon as you complete them; they leave the Planner and land in Reporting.

Concrete example

Monday morning you open the Planner and the Overdue lane has three cards from last week. Two are still relevant, so you drag them into Today; the third is no longer needed, so you open it and mark it cancelled. Your Today lane now shows six tasks ordered by priority — the Urgent "Renew SSL cert" is at the very top. You clear it first, then work down the list. A card in Tomorrow looks like it could wait, so you drag it into Upcoming to keep tomorrow light.

Tips

  • Rescheduling by dragging updates the task's due date directly — no need to open each task.
  • Use No due date as a holding area, then drag tasks into a day when you're ready to commit to them.
  • A growing Overdue lane is a signal to be more conservative with due dates — schedule what you can realistically finish.

Troubleshooting

  • A task isn't in any dated lane. Tasks without a due date sit in No due date. Give it a date (or drag it into a day) to place it.
  • I dragged a task and the date looks off. The Planner interprets dates in your workspace timezone (Settings). If a task lands a day early or late, check your default timezone.
  • A task set to the Today status shows in Today even without a due date. That's intended — the Today lane includes both tasks due today and tasks explicitly set to the Today status.
