Overview
The first time you open StretchTasks, a short onboarding flow personalizes the app so it fits how you work. It's five quick steps — Profile → Mode → Habit → Calendar → Finish — and you can skip or reset it at any time. Nothing you enter is locked in; every choice can be changed later in Settings.
The five steps
1. Profile Tell StretchTasks who you are. Enter a display name and, optionally, choose a profile avatar. This is the name that appears as the actor on tasks you create and complete.
2. Mode Choose how you work:
- Solo — you're managing your own work. Views and defaults are tuned for a single person.
- Team — you're coordinating work with others. Assignment and shared views are emphasized.
3. Habit Tell StretchTasks how you track work today so it can meet you where you are. The options are paper (notebooks and sticky notes), another app, a calendar, or memory (you keep it in your head). This is used to tailor tips and suggested defaults.
4. Calendar Optionally connect a calendar so due dates and reminders line up with your schedule. You can choose Google, Outlook, or Skip for now. Connecting is optional — StretchTasks works fully without it, and you can connect later.
5. Finish A summary of your choices. Confirm to complete onboarding. Your onboarding status is recorded as completed, which also shows up in the Dashboard's onboarding indicator.
Steps: run through onboarding
- Open StretchTasks for the first time — the onboarding panel appears automatically.
- On Profile, type your display name and pick an avatar, then continue.
- On Mode, choose Solo or Team.
- On Habit, select the option closest to how you track work now.
- On Calendar, choose Google, Outlook, or Skip.
- On Finish, review the summary and click Finish to complete setup.
Skipping or resetting
- Skip — if you'd rather explore first, choose Skip. Onboarding is marked skipped and you go straight to the Dashboard. You can always come back.
- Reset — if you want to run onboarding again (for example, after switching from Solo to Team), reset it from Settings; the flow returns to the Profile step.
Example
Maria runs a two-person studio. On first launch she enters "Maria R." on Profile, chooses Team on Mode because she assigns work to her partner, selects another app on Habit (she's migrating from a generic to-do app), and picks Skip on Calendar for now. She finishes onboarding and lands on the Dashboard ready to import her first batch of tasks. A week later she connects Google calendar from Settings so reminders show up next to her meetings.
Tips
- You don't have to connect a calendar to get started — Skip and revisit it once you're settled in.
- If you chose Solo but later start delegating, switch to Team by resetting onboarding or updating your work mode.
- Onboarding choices feed your Settings defaults, so completing it saves you configuration time later.
Troubleshooting
- The onboarding panel keeps reappearing. It shows until it's marked completed or skipped. Click through to Finish (or choose Skip) once, and it won't return.
- My calendar didn't connect. Calendar connection is optional and separate from core task features. If a connection fails, choose Skip, finish onboarding, and retry the connection from Settings — the rest of StretchTasks is fully usable in the meantime.
- I want to start over. Use Reset in Settings to send onboarding back to the Profile step without losing any tasks you've already created.
