Overview
Your catalog is the heart of your store. In StretchShop a product is anything you sell, and collections are the groups you organize products into (for example "New Arrivals" or "Sale"). This guide covers creating and editing products, product status, media, duplicating and bulk-editing, and building collections. Options, variants, and stock tracking have their own dedicated guides.
Product fields you should know
Every product can carry:
- Title (required) — the product name shown to buyers.
- Handle / slug — the URL-friendly identifier.
- Description — long-form details and marketing copy.
- Status —
draft(hidden),active(on the storefront), orarchived(retired). - Price — stored in cents (
4999= $49.99) with a currency (defaultCAD). - SKU and barcode — your internal identifiers.
- Inventory quantity and track inventory — how many you have and whether to count down on sale.
- Low-stock threshold — the level at which a product is flagged low.
- Image and additional media, tags, and metadata.
Create a product
- Open Products from the left navigation rail and click New product.
- Enter a Title (required). If you leave it blank, StretchShop returns a "title required" error.
- Set the Price and confirm the currency.
- Add a SKU, barcode, and starting inventory quantity if you track stock.
- Add a description, tags (for filtering and collections), and an image.
- Choose a status. Use
draftwhile you finish, thenactiveto publish. - Click Save. The product now appears in your list and, if
active, on the storefront.
Edit, archive, and delete
- To edit, open a product, change any field, and save. Only the fields you change are updated.
- Archiving a product (delete action) sets its status to
archivedand removes it from the storefront while keeping its history intact — this is a soft delete, so past orders remain accurate. - Filter your product list by status (
active, draft, archived), type, vendor, or tag to find items quickly.
Duplicate a product
When a new product is nearly identical to an existing one, use Duplicate. StretchShop copies the product's fields into a new draft you can rename and adjust. This is the fastest way to launch product families that share most attributes.
Bulk-update products
Need to change many products at once — for example, move a set to active, add a tag, or adjust pricing for a sale? Use Bulk update:
- Select the products you want to change (or provide their IDs).
- Choose the field(s) to apply — status, tags, price, and so on.
- Confirm. StretchShop applies the change across every selected product in one operation.
Build collections
Collections group products for merchandising and navigation.
- Open Collections and click New collection.
- Enter a Title (required), an optional slug and description, and a status (
activeorarchived). - Save, then open the collection and Add product to attach items. You can set a sort order to control how products appear.
- Remove a product from a collection at any time without deleting the product itself.
A realistic example
You are launching a summer line. You create the collection "Summer 2026" (active). You add "Linen Tote" at 3500, then Duplicate it to make "Linen Tote — Large", change the title and price to 4200, and add both to the collection. You tag both summer so they also surface in tag-based storefront filters. Finally you Bulk update ten older items to archived so the storefront shows only your current range.
Tips
- Keep titles specific and searchable — they drive both storefront browsing and internal search.
- Use tags consistently; they are the glue between products, collections, and filtered views.
- Prefer archive over hard deletion so order history and reporting stay accurate.
- Set a sensible low-stock threshold on every tracked product so you get early warnings (see Inventory, Locations & Transfers).
Troubleshooting
- "Product title required" — every product needs a title before it can be saved.
- A product isn't on the storefront — check that its status is
active, notdraftorarchived. - Duplicate handle/barcode conflict — handles and barcodes must be unique within your store; change the conflicting value.
- Price looks 100x off — remember money is entered and stored in whole cents;
2400is $24.00, not $2,400.
