The Dashboard and Insights Views

Two views that summarize your whole library

Besides the grid editor, StretchSheets gives you two overview surfaces that summarize every workbook in your organization: the Dashboard and Insights. Neither one requires opening an individual workbook — both read from the live list of your sheets, so they always reflect the current state.

The Dashboard

The Dashboard is the first screen you see when you open StretchSheets. It answers "what's the shape of all our spreadsheets right now?" with a row of stat cards and a set of charts.

Stat cards

Across the top you'll find summary cards:

• Workbooks — the total number of live workbooks (from the API record count).
• Active — workbooks ready for teams to use.
• Drafts — workbooks still in progress.
• Archived — retained history you've set aside.
• Formula cells — how many cells across your library contain formulas such as SUM, AVG, IF, or VLOOKUP.
• Frozen sheets — how many workbooks carry sticky row/column (freeze pane) metadata.
• Formatted cells — how many cells carry saved style metadata (bold, italic, alignment, fill).
• Snapshots — the total version-history snapshots captured across your workbooks.

Charts

Below the cards, the Dashboard visualizes:

• Status distribution — the mix of Active, Draft, and Archived workbooks.
• Folder distribution — how your workbooks are spread across folders (top folders shown).
• Recently updated — the six most recently edited workbooks, so you can jump straight back into current work.

How to use it

1. Open StretchSheets; you arrive on the Dashboard.
2. Scan the stat cards for a quick health check — for example, a large Draft count may mean work is stalling before it goes live.
3. Use the Recently updated list to reopen a workbook you were just in.
4. Click a folder or status segment to understand where your work is concentrated.

The Insights view

The Insights section explains how the platform's governance, audit, versioning, and structure apply to your sheets. Where the Dashboard is about what you have, Insights is about how it's protected and organized.

Insights highlights:

• Organization scoping — every workbook belongs to your organization and is invisible to other tenants. Requests are checked against your membership on the server, not just in the browser.
• Audit trail — StretchSheets records who created and last updated each workbook (by email) and when, so changes are attributable.
• Version history — automatic snapshots (up to 20 per workbook) capture prior states each time content is saved.
• Structure — counts of formulas, frozen panes, and formatting across the library, so you can see how sophisticated your sheets have become.

A realistic example

Suppose it's the end of a quarter and you want to make sure nothing is unfinished. Open the Dashboard: the Drafts card reads 7. You switch to the Workbooks library, filter to Draft status, and find three budget drafts that never went Active. You finish them, flip them to Active, and the Dashboard's Draft card drops to 4 — a fast, visible way to close the loop.

Tips

• The stat cards are a great weekly check-in: a climbing Archived count is healthy (you're retiring old work); a climbing Drafts count may signal bottlenecks.
• Snapshots on the Dashboard confirm that version history is actively protecting your data — if you edit and save often, expect this number to grow.
• Use folders deliberately (for example Finance, Sales, Ops) so the Folder distribution chart becomes a meaningful map of your work.

FAQ

Do the Dashboard numbers update in real time?
They reflect the workbook list each time the view loads or refreshes. Reopen the Dashboard after making changes to see updated counts.

Why is my Formula/Formatted-cell count zero?
Those totals only count cells that actually contain formulas or saved styles. A brand-new library of plain-data sheets will show low structure counts until you start using formulas and formatting.

Can other organizations see my Dashboard?
No. Every number is derived only from your organization's workbooks.
