StretchMeet can record your meetings so you never lose an important conversation. You can record automatically, or start and stop recording on demand during the call. This article covers recording modes, controlling recording live, and finding recordings afterward.
Recording modes
Each meeting room has a recording mode you set when creating or editing it:
- Off — the meeting is not recorded. (Default.)
- Manual — you decide during the call when to start and stop recording.
- Automatic — recording begins on its own when the meeting starts, so you never forget.
Set the recording mode
- Create or open a meeting.
- Find the recording setting.
- Choose off, manual, or automatic.
- Save.
For recurring client calls, automatic is a safe choice. For sensitive discussions you'd rather not always capture, use manual.
Start and stop recording during a meeting
In a live meeting with manual (or automatic) recording:
- Click Record (or Start recording) to begin capturing.
- Optionally give the recording a title so it's easy to find later.
- Click Stop recording to end capture. You can start and stop more than once in a meeting if you only want to record certain portions.
Recording also stops automatically when you End the meeting.
Recording with a transcript
When you start a recording you can also request a transcript, so a searchable text version is produced alongside the recording. See Transcripts, AI Summaries & Artifacts for what you get and how to use it.
Find your recordings
- Open the StretchMeet dashboard and go to Recordings, or open the specific meeting and view its artifacts.
- Select a recording to open it.
- From there you can reach the transcript and AI summary if they were enabled.
Recordings appear after the meeting finishes and processing completes — give it a short while after a long call.
A realistic example
A sales team records every discovery call for coaching. Each rep's call room is set to automatic recording so nothing is missed. During one call, the prospect shares confidential figures and asks the rep not to record that part — the rep clicks Stop recording, has the sensitive conversation, then clicks Record again afterward. Later, the manager opens the recording from the dashboard, reads the transcript, and reviews the AI summary's action items with the rep.
Tips
- Tell people they're being recorded. It's good practice — and often legally required — to let participants know at the start.
- Use automatic for consistency. If recordings matter for compliance or coaching, don't rely on remembering to hit record.
- Title long recordings. A clear title makes a specific call easy to find weeks later.
- Stop for sensitive moments. With manual control you can pause capture for off-the-record portions.
Troubleshooting
- Recording won't start. Recording runs on the native engine and requires the meeting to be live. Confirm the room uses StretchMeet (native) and that you have a host or co-host role.
- My recording isn't in the list yet. Processing takes a little time after the meeting ends. Refresh the Recordings list shortly after.
- I set automatic but nothing recorded. Double-check the room's recording mode was saved as automatic, and that the meeting actually went live.
- No transcript with my recording. A transcript is produced when requested (or when transcription mode is on). See Transcripts, AI Summaries & Artifacts.
