Take a course quiz

Overview

Many courses include a quiz to confirm you've understood the material. Some quizzes are just checks along the way; others gate your certificate. This article walks through taking one, reading your result, and retaking if you're allowed.

Before you start

When you open a quiz, read the instructions at the top. They tell you the rules that apply to this quiz:

• Passing score — the percentage you need to pass (often 70%, sometimes higher for certification quizzes).
• Time limit — if the quiz is timed, you'll have a set number of minutes once you begin. Untimed quizzes have no clock.
• Attempts allowed — how many tries you get. Some quizzes are unlimited; others cap your attempts.
• Answers shown — whether you'll see the correct answers after you submit.

Tip: If the quiz is timed or limited to one attempt, review the lessons first. You don't want to burn your only try unprepared.

Take the quiz

1. Open the quiz from within the course when you reach it.
2. Read the instructions and note the passing score, time limit, and attempts.
3. Answer each question. Questions are usually multiple choice — select the answer you believe is correct. Note that the quiz may shuffle the question order and the answer order, so don't rely on position.
4. Answer every required question — you can't complete the quiz while a required question is blank.
5. Submit your attempt.

Read your results

After submitting, StretchLearn scores your attempt:

• Your score is the points you earned as a percentage of the total possible. Questions can be worth different point values, so a two-point question counts more than a one-point question.
• If your score meets or beats the passing score, you pass.
• If the quiz is set to show correct answers, you'll see which questions you got right and wrong, along with any explanations the instructor added.

Retake a quiz

1. If you didn't pass and have attempts remaining, choose to retake the quiz.
2. Review the lessons or the feedback from your last attempt first.
3. Start a fresh attempt. If the quiz shuffles, expect the questions in a new order.
4. Keep going until you pass or run out of attempts.

Tips

• Watch the clock on timed quizzes; a partly finished timed attempt still gets scored on what you answered.
• Use the feedback and explanations after a failed attempt — they point straight at what to review.
• Don't memorize answer positions; shuffling moves them between attempts.
• If a question offers "select all that apply" style options, read carefully — more than one option may be correct.

Troubleshooting

• I can't submit. A required question is probably unanswered. Scroll for any question you skipped.
• I ran out of attempts. The quiz caps retries. Contact the course provider if you need the attempt count reset.
• My time ran out. Timed quizzes end when the clock does and score what you completed. Retake it if you have attempts left.
• I passed but the course still isn't complete. There may be other required lessons or another quiz. Check your progress for anything still incomplete.
• I don't see the correct answers. Not every quiz reveals them — that's controlled by the instructor's show correct answers setting.
