Building quizzes and assessments

Overview

Quizzes (StretchLearn calls them assessments) let you check understanding and gate completion. A quiz can be attached to a whole course, a single module, or an individual lesson. Each quiz holds questions, each question holds answer options, and you control scoring, attempts, timing, and how answers are shown.

Quiz-level settings

When you create a quiz, you set the rules for the whole thing:

Setting	What it controls
Title	The quiz name (required).
Scope	Whether the quiz belongs to the course, a module, or a lesson.
Summary / Instructions	Guidance shown to the learner before they start.
Passing score	The percentage needed to pass. Defaults to 70%.
Attempts allowed	How many tries a learner gets. Leave blank for unlimited.
Time limit	Minutes allowed per attempt. Leave blank for untimed.
Shuffle questions	Randomize question order each attempt.
Shuffle options	Randomize answer order within each question.
Show correct answers	Reveal the correct answers after submission.
Required	Whether the quiz must be completed for the course.
Status	`draft` while you build, published when ready.
Sort order	Where the quiz appears among a course's assessments.

Build a quiz

Select a course in Catalog or Records, then open the Quizzes view (or the Builder's assessments area).
Create a new quiz and give it a title — this is required.
Choose the scope: course, module, or lesson. If you pick module or lesson, select which one.
Set the passing score (default 70%), and optionally an attempts allowed limit and a time limit in minutes.
Decide whether to shuffle questions, shuffle options, and show correct answers after submission.
Add your questions (below), then save. Set the status to published when you're ready for learners to see it.

Add questions and answers

Each question is multiple choice by default. For every question:

Enter the question prompt — the text the learner reads. A question with no prompt is skipped, so always fill this in.
Set a point value (defaults to 1 point).
Add answer options. For each option, enter the option text, mark whether it is correct, and optionally add feedback shown when that option is chosen.
Mark the question required if the learner must answer it.
Add an optional explanation that appears with the results to reinforce the learning.

Tip: Give at least one option is correct. A question with no correct option can never be scored as right.

A realistic example

A final quiz for Operator Certification might look like this:

A learner needs 80% across the two questions, gets two attempts, and has 15 minutes. Questions appear in a random order, and after submitting, the learner sees which answers were correct.

How scoring works

Each question contributes its point value to the total.
The learner's score is their earned points as a percentage of the total possible.
If that percentage meets or beats the passing score, the attempt passes.
If attempts allowed is set, the learner is limited to that many tries; leave it blank for unlimited retakes.

Tips

Start with a modest passing score (70%) unless the material is high-stakes, then raise it for certification-grade courses.
Turn on show correct answers for learning quizzes and turn it off for exams you want to reuse.
Use shuffle questions and shuffle options together to make an exam harder to share between learners.
Write feedback on wrong options — it turns a missed question into a teaching moment.
Keep quizzes short and focused; several small lesson-scoped quizzes often beat one giant final exam.

Troubleshooting

"Quiz title is required." You saved without a title. Add one and retry.
A question disappeared after saving. Questions with an empty prompt are dropped. Make sure every question has prompt text.
The quiz can't be saved and mentions assessment tables. Your workspace's assessment feature isn't installed yet. Contact your StretchSuite administrator to enable StretchLearn assessments.
Learners can't retake a failed quiz. Check attempts allowed — a low number caps retries. Clear it for unlimited attempts.
