Navigating the StretchDrive Interface

A complete reference to every control in StretchDrive — the New menu, My Drive, Trash, search, views, sorting, and the storage meter.

This article is a reference to every control in StretchDrive so you always know where to click. Keep it handy while you get comfortable with the app.

Getting to Drive

StretchDrive lives in the left navigation under Content & Creative → StretchDrive. It sits alongside the other content apps — StretchDocs, StretchSheets, StretchPages, StretchDesign, and StretchForms — because files stored in Drive can feed directly into them.

The top toolbar

The toolbar is your command center. From left to right:

  1. + New — opens a menu to create a new folder or start an upload. This is the primary way to add content.
  2. My Drive — jumps back to the root of your personal space no matter how deep in a folder you are.
  3. Trash — opens the recycle area containing everything you've deleted. From here you can restore items or empty the Trash to permanently remove them.
  4. Search in Drive — the search box. Type a term to find files and folders by name; for text-based files, StretchDrive also searches the words inside the file and shows a matching snippet.
  5. Grid / List toggle — the two buttons on the right switch the layout. Grid shows large tiles (great for images); List shows a dense, scannable table (great for long file lists).
  6. Sort — the dropdown (default Name) controls the order items appear in.
  7. Info (i) — opens a details panel with more information about the current view or the selected item.

The storage card

Below the toolbar sits the Storage card with a usage meter, e.g. 0 B of 15 GB used. This reflects your organization's plan quota:

  • Core / Starter / Free: 15 GB
  • Pro: 50 GB
  • Agency: 150 GB

The meter fills as you and your teammates upload files and empties as you permanently delete them. See Managing Storage and Quotas for details.

The file area

The large central panel lists the folders and files in your current location. When a folder is empty you'll see the friendly empty state — A place for all your files, a Drag files here prompt, and an Upload file button. Otherwise, your items appear as tiles or rows depending on the view you've chosen.

  • Open a folder by clicking it; the view updates to show its contents.
  • Select a file to reveal actions such as preview, download, rename, move, share, and delete.
  • Drag and drop files from your computer anywhere onto this area to upload them into the current folder.

Reading a folder path

As you move into subfolders, StretchDrive tracks your location. Clicking My Drive always returns you to the top. Because every folder has an internal path, moving or renaming a folder automatically keeps the paths of everything inside it correct — you never end up with broken locations.

Global workspace controls

Outside Drive itself, the top-right of the workspace offers controls that apply everywhere:

  • Tutorial — a guided in-app walkthrough.
  • Theme toggle — switch between light and dark appearance.
  • Account menu — your profile, role, and sign-out.

A realistic example

You're looking for a contract you filed last month but can't remember the folder. You click into the Search in Drive box and type renewal. StretchDrive returns the folder Renewals 2026, a PDF named Acme-renewal.pdf, and a text file whose contents mention "renewal terms," showing a highlighted snippet. You switch to List view to compare them at a glance, click the PDF to preview it, and confirm it's the right one — without downloading anything.

Tips

  • Use List view + Sort to quickly find the most recently updated files.
  • The Info (i) panel is the fastest way to check a file's details.
  • Remember that My Drive and Trash are always one click away in the toolbar.
  • Drag-and-drop respects your current folder — open the destination folder first, then drop.

FAQ

Does the storage meter count other people's files? It reflects your whole organization's usage against the plan quota, since storage is shared at the workspace level.

Can I change the default sort? Yes — use the sort dropdown; it applies to the current view.

Why is an item missing? Check Trash (it may have been deleted) and confirm you have permission to see it — items shared only with others won't appear in your My Drive.
