Troubleshooting publishing, enrollment, and certificates

Diagnose and fix the most common StretchCode issues — hidden content, locked lessons, missing catalog entries, quiz gating, and certificates that don't issue.

How to use this guide

Each section below is a symptom, its likely causes, and the fix. Most StretchCode issues trace back to status (draft vs published), visibility (internal vs public), enrollment, or quiz gating. Work through the checks in order.

A course isn't in the catalog

Symptom: You published a course but learners can't find it in the catalog.

  1. Confirm the course status is published, not draft.
  2. Confirm the course visibility is public, not internal. The catalog only lists courses that are both published and public.
  3. Check catalog filters — an active category, subject, or level filter can hide it. Clear filters or search by title.
  4. Remember the catalog is paginated; use search rather than scrolling if you have many courses.

Lessons don't appear inside a published course

Symptom: The course is live, but learners see no (or missing) lessons.

  1. Publishing a course does not publish its lessons. Set each module and lesson you want visible to published.
  2. Draft modules and lessons are hidden even inside a published course — by design.
  3. Verify sort order if lessons appear in the wrong sequence.

A learner sees 'this lesson is locked'

Symptom: A learner hits a locked message when opening a lesson.

  1. Non-preview lessons are locked to enrolled learners. Confirm the learner is enrolled in the course.
  2. If you intended the lesson to be open to everyone, mark it a free preview.
  3. Anonymous visitors can only read free-preview lessons; everything else prompts them to enroll.

A learner can't enroll

Symptom: The enroll action fails or isn't available.

  1. Confirm the course is published and public (enrollment targets a live, public course).
  2. Confirm the learner is signed in — enrollment requires an account.
  3. If the course was recently archived, it's no longer enrollable; restore/republish a current version.

A quiz isn't showing

Symptom: Enrolled learners don't see the quiz.

  1. Confirm the quiz status is published. Draft quizzes are hidden and don't gate completion.
  2. Confirm the learner is enrolled — the "Take the final quiz" action is for enrolled learners.
  3. Check that the quiz is attached to the correct course.

A course won't complete / no certificate issues

Symptom: A learner shows 100% lesson progress but the course stays incomplete and no certificate appears.

  1. The course almost certainly has a published quiz the learner hasn't passed. Completion requires all lessons complete AND all quizzes passed.
  2. Have the learner take (or retake) the quiz and meet the pass threshold. On passing, the certificate issues automatically.
  3. If there's genuinely no quiz and the learner completed every published lesson, confirm you didn't recently publish a new lesson — that raises the required count and lowers their percentage until they finish it.
  4. Certificates are issued once per learner per course; if the learner already has one, that's expected.

A certificate name looks wrong

Symptom: The verification page shows an odd holder name.

  1. The name resolves from the learner's profile: display name → first/last name → the local part of their email as a fallback.
  2. Ask the learner to set a proper display name in their profile. Newly earned certificates will render correctly.

'Slug already exists' when creating a module or lesson

Symptom: You get a slug-conflict message.

  1. Module and lesson slugs must be unique within a course. Choose a different slug.
  2. For courses, StretchCode auto-appends a number to keep slugs unique, so course-slug conflicts resolve automatically.

AI assist isn't available

Symptom: You can't find or use AI lesson generation.

  1. AI assist is feature-flagged and depends on the model service being available. If it's disabled or unavailable, it's hidden or returns a "not available" response.
  2. Contact your StretchSuite administrator to enable it for your workspace.
  3. If enabled but you got nothing back, make sure you entered a non-empty, specific topic.

Still stuck?

If a problem persists after these checks, gather the specifics — the course slug, the learner's situation, and for certificate issues the serial (SC-…) — and contact StretchSuite support. Precise identifiers let support resolve issues far faster.

Tips to prevent issues

  • Before announcing a course, open it as a test learner to confirm lessons are published and the quiz appears.
  • Keep a simple pre-publish checklist: modules/lessons published, visibility set, quiz published, SEO and images filled in.
  • Communicate when you add lessons to a live course, since it changes completion percentages for in-progress learners.
