Why the fingerprint matters
The brand fingerprint is the single most important object in StretchBAS. It is the structured description of your brand that the generator reads on every task. When you generate content, run a content pack, write social posts, refine a draft, or score consistency, StretchBAS is comparing against — or writing from — this fingerprint. Get it right and everything downstream sounds like you; leave a mistake in it and that mistake repeats across every generation.
The fields inside a fingerprint
When you open a profile, you will see the captured fields. Here is what each one means and how it is used:
- Voice — the overall character of your writing (for example "warm, direct, and encouraging"). This is the strongest lever on how content reads.
- Tone — how the voice flexes by context (for example "upbeat but never hype").
- Personality — a short list of traits that sit behind the voice.
- Audience — who you write for. The generator tailors reading level and framing to this.
- Value propositions — the concrete promises your brand makes. These get woven into persuasive content.
- Themes — the subjects you keep returning to. Great for keeping content on-message.
- Vocabulary — words and phrases that are distinctly yours (and, implicitly, the ones to favor).
- Do / Don't rules — explicit guardrails the generator follows.
- Tagline style and sample sentences — reference examples that anchor the model to your actual phrasing.
Editing your fingerprint (free)
StretchBAS does its best to capture your brand automatically, but you know your brand better than any model. You can correct the most important fields directly, and editing is free — no credit is spent because no new content is generated.
1. Open StretchBAS → Absorb (or the Profiles view) and select the profile you want to edit.
2. Choose Edit and adjust any of these tunable fields:
- Voice
- Tone
- Themes (a list)
- Value propositions (a list)
3. Save. Your changes merge into the fingerprint immediately and take effect on your next generation.
Edits are bounded to keep the fingerprint focused: very long entries are trimmed, and the lists cap at a sensible number of items so the profile stays sharp rather than sprawling.
Example
After absorbing paynecoaching.co, Beau notices the fingerprint described the tone as "authoritative." That is not quite right — Payne Coaching is encouraging, not commanding. Beau edits Tone to "encouraging and supportive, never preachy" and adds "small, sustainable wins" to Themes. The next email he generates immediately reflects the softer, more human tone.
When to edit vs. when to re-absorb
- Edit when the fingerprint is mostly right but a field or two needs correcting, or when you want to nudge the emphasis (add a theme, sharpen a value prop). Edits are free and instant.
- Re-absorb when your brand has genuinely changed — a rebrand, a new positioning, a new audience — or when the original crawl missed most of your voice-defining pages. Re-absorbing reads fresh content and creates a new profile (1 credit).
Tips
- Fix the fingerprint before you generate at volume. One good edit improves every future piece; fixing dozens of generations one at a time does not.
- Keep value propositions concrete. "We help coaches build recurring revenue" outperforms "We deliver value."
- Trim vague themes. A tight set of five to eight strong themes keeps content on-message better than a long, noisy list.
- Edits are versionless and immediate — there is no publish step; your next generation uses the updated fingerprint.
FAQ
Does editing the fingerprint change my past generations? No. It only affects content you generate after the edit. Past generations in History are unchanged.
Which fields can I edit? Voice, tone, themes, and value propositions. Other captured signals (personality, vocabulary, sample sentences) come from the absorb; re-absorb to refresh them.
Can I have more than one fingerprint per brand? Yes — for example a formal fingerprint for legal pages and a playful one for social. Each absorb creates a separate profile you can name and manage independently.
